It is the Tumular Chapel of Diogo Lopes de Sequeira, 4th General Governor of India and great discoverer and sailor of the African and oriental seas. He was lauded by Camões in the Lusíadas (X,52) and alcayde of the town of Alandroal. The church was founded in 1570.
